Intervention Services
At CANGroup, our intervention sessions provide meaningful support to neurodivergent children and their families. Depending on a child’s unique needs, goals, and age, these sessions may involve working directly with a young person who is autistic or has ADHD, language, or learning disorders, and/or supporting their caregivers.
Intervention begins with a parent intake session, where caregivers are invited to share important information about their child—including their strengths, areas of difficulty, and any relevant background. This session also provides an opportunity to discuss the family's hopes for intervention and explore what meaningful change might look like.
As intervention progresses, our clinicians continue to collaborate with families to develop personalised therapy and intervention goals using evidence-based approaches tailored to each child. Intervention can address a variety of areas, including emotion and behaviour regulation, mood and anxiety management, and support for social challenges. We can also provide cognitive strategies to enhance learning and academic outcomes, including executive functioning support.
For young people and their families who have participated in a neuropsychological assessment, we also offer:
-
Child Feedback. This session helps the young person better understand how their brain works. In an age-appropriate, supportive manner, this session involves discussions about their strengths and challenges, and, when appropriate, any diagnoses—helping them to understand what this means for them in everyday life. We also explore practical support strategies to help them navigate everyday experiences. For a deeper, more comprehensive approach, this type of work can also be undertaken through a block of intervention sessions with the young person, where tailored ongoing support helps them to understand what being neurodivergent means to them.
-
Follow-up Session/s for Parents. Neuropsychological assessments at CANGroup include a comprehensive feedback session where assessment findings are discussed with a child’s caregivers. However, for some families, a single feedback session may not be sufficient. In these situations, we offer follow-up sessions for caregivers, which are tailored to each family’s needs. The sessions can support parents to more fully understand their child’s profile, explore specific challenges in greater depth, and/or collaboratively consider priorities for intervention and support planning.
-
Long-term Monitoring and Support. As children grow and develop, their needs can change, especially as expectations increase at school and in daily life. We therefore offer long-term monitoring opportunities to review a child’s progress over time, identify new or emerging challenges, and guide future planning to ensure that recommendations remain relevant and helpful.
